The Alpert Award in the Arts is an unrestricted prize of $75,000 given annually to five risk-taking mid-career artists working in the fields of dance, film/video, music, theatre and the visual arts.
The prize was initiated and funded by the Herb Alpert Foundation and has been administered by California Institute of the Arts since 1994.
The Alpert Award team's goals were twofold: First, to rebuild their existing website in a content management system so they could add future content without assistance from a web developer, and secondly- to build an artist archive so visitors to the site could easily access information on previous award recipients going back to 1995.
To complicate matters, the artist profiles on previous incarnations of the website had much less information and media than more recent artist profiles, which had extensive interviews, slideshows, embedded audio and video.
The solution was to create a flexible artist profile template system that would look complete and beautiful regardless of the amount of text and media contained within it.
The site was built using Drupal 7 and the Twitter Bootstrap framework.
